More HTC HD7 Information Floods In

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

Just yesterday, some images of the HTC 7 Trophy and and HD7 arrived, and now the flood gates have opened, swamping us with information. Unfortunately, there’s also a lot of confusion about what devices we’re talking about. There are a ton of names being kicked about, all of which may be the same, or completely different phones. There’s the HD7, the 7 Trophy, the HD7 Mozart, the HD3 and the Schubert. Confusing, huh? We don’t know which is which, and probably won’t know for a while. This is what we’ve found out in the last 24 hours:

A full set of specs for the HD7 have leaked, indicating it’ll come to T-Mobile

4.3-inch WVGA TFT display, 480 x 800 resolution, 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 processor, 576 MB of RAM, dual-band HSPA/UMTS 7.2 Mbps radio, quad-band GSM radio, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, a-GPS, digital compass, FM radio, 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with dual-LED flash, 1,230 mAh battery

The HTC 7 Mozart just passed Global Certification. Same phone, or not? We don’t know.

The first real shots of the HD7 (in glorious focus) got posted on a Chinese forum (via WME)

Notice that it’s branded HD 3 in all those shots. Confusing, huh?

We’ve also heard the following for European pricing “though T-mobile (Germany), as well as O2 (Germany) for €560 (~US$750) and €599 (~US$800).” We assume that’s without contract.

That is indeed without contract according to your earlier post: http://www.everythingwm.com/htc-hd7-scheduled-for-mid-october-release/2010/09/20/

€80 euro plus €20/month on a two year contract according to that post.

Windows Phone 7 Goes Back To Basic

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

Visual Basic is one of the most popular, and arguable easiest to learn, programming languages on the planet, and it’s going to plug in very nicely to Windows Phone 7. This is a CTP (community technical preview) of Visual Basic for Windows Phone 7, and should lower the barrier for developing a WP7 app even further. The other cool thing, is that older versions of Windows Mobile used VB, so it may be possible for developers to port the core of apps into the new OS.

The build of VB isn’t final yet, so it might be a little while before we see a torrent of apps from the language, but the more the merrier, either way.

And Now The HTC 7 Trophy Specs Kick In

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

Just yesterday I was posting that I was bewildered by what handsets HTC’s producing, how they differ, and what are just different names for the same thing. Well, this helps clear things up a little, the full European specs for the HTC 7 Trophy, also known as the HTC Spark.

While it’s currently only shown to run on European networks, we hope that a US version is in the pipeline too.

It’ll have a 3.8-inch screen, 8GB non-removable microSD card (what?), 576MB of RAM, GPS, Compass, FM Radio, 1GHz chip, 5MP camera, 1300m Ah battery.

The 8GB of storage is pretty underwhelming, especially as you can’t swap it out.

LG E900/Optimus 7 Gets 20 Minutes Of Airtime

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

Here’s an impressive 20-minute long hands-on with the LG E900/Optimus 7 from a Czech website. I have no idea what he’s saying, but it’s pretty good to ogle at the hardware.

Windows Phone 7 Confirmed To Tether, Needs Carrier Approval [update: turns out it can't]

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

Earlier this week we heard a rumor that WP7 might have free USB tethering, which caused us all to jump with joy, until it turned out to be a misunderstanding. What has been confirmed is that WP7 will be able to support tethering, but it will rely on the carrier to enable it. Just like every other smartphone in existence.

Not quite what we were hoping for, a free compulsory service, but hardly unexpected. Free tethering could have been a killer feature, but I guess it isn’t happening. We’re stuck with carrier’s high priced tethering fee.

HTC Denies Sense UI At Launch

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

Even though we’ve seen multiple leaks about Sense UI For Windows Phone 7, including a very convincing video, HTC says that Sense won’t be used immediately. Says HTC CEO Peter Chou:

“Initially, we don’t have time to bring things on top of that. But over time we will innovate on top of that to provide some HTC experience.

“I don’t think we would do complete Sense UI on Windows Phone 7. However, I will say that we will innovate differently to improve the experience and to get some HTC unique and differentiated experience on Windows Phone 7 in the future.”Frankly, the less of this sort of stuff, the better. It’s bloated, doesn’t fit the look of WP7, and has caused significant fragmentation on Android. Trust Microsoft on this one.

Microsoft To Launch Windows Phone 7 Devices on October 21

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

We’ve heard plenty of speculation and now sources of Neowin are saying that October 21st will be the release date for Windows Phone 7 devices. That jives with what we’ve heard about the HTC HD7 release date. Microsoft will hold several worldwide launch events. They are also supposed holding an open house event in New York City on October 11th. While devices will hit the UK, France, German, Italy and Spain on the 21st, it’s not clear if we’ll see a launch here in the US on that date.

Update: According to Paul Thurrott, who is well-connected, the US launch date is November 8th.

It’s almost time folks. We suspect rumors will ramp up as we get close to the launch date.

Is this confirmed? Well, lets get the conversation started.

Looks like Paul Thurrott has splashed a bit of cold water on this rumor, saying his sources say November 8th.

AT&T HTC Mondrian Ads Surface

September 28th, 2010 API No comments

New ads have surfaced for the HTC Mondrian, which will be released on AT&T Wireless. The ads are of the teaser variety, so we don’t really see much of the phone. How many of you find yourself on familiar footing while viewing these ads.
